Chair of Governors - Kathryn Joy

Role : Chair of Governors; Literacy/English Governor Year Group: Y6 (2017)

Kathryn Joy has offered a wide range of training and consultancy in English for BPSI since
2012. She now combines this work with supporting schools at leadership level and training
for The National Literacy Trust and Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE).
Kathryn has more than 20 years of experience in Primary Education. After working in a
number of schools in London and Manchester she became Deputy Head of an outstanding
school in Hertfordshire before joining Barnet LA in 2009 as a Primary Strategy Literacy
Consultant. She is passionate about children’s literacy and its role at the centre of learning.
Kathryn can offer a wide range of support to schools which includes:working with senior and
middle managers and subject leaders on the strategic development of literacy across the
school and more broadly around school improvement;curriculum development and new
assessment practices; writing moderation and working with teachers to improve their
classroom practice. Kathryn also has a particular interest in the development of reading
in schools at all levels and can offer support in this area.

 

Aruna Ajitsaria - Local Authority Governor

Role : Chair of Curriculum & Standards Committee; Safeguarding Governor,
Year group: Rec (2017)

In June 2011 Aruna was appointed as a Local Authority Governor of the then federated
governing body of Edgware Infant and Junior Schools.She brings with her thirty five years
of teaching experience in a Primary school in London Borough of Brent, the last eighteen of
which were as Deputy and Acting Head teacher. She has also worked as a Link Tutor for
the Post Graduate Teaching Certificate at Brunel University. At present she works with
Cambridge International Examination Board as a Setter,Marker and Moderator for IGCSE
and A Level Examinations. 

Aruna has also been a governor at a 3-18 Independent school in Elstree since 2001 where
her main responsibilities are Junior school and Teaching and Learning. She feels passionately a
bout giving every child the best opportunity to realise their full potential.Aruna was honoured
by London Borough of Brent for supporting the staff in raising the standards and in 2006 was
awarded MBE by Her Majesty The Queen for her services to Education.

 

 

Mike Catley:  Staff Governor

Role : Staff Governor Year group: Y5 (2017)

Mike Catley was elected as staff governor in December 2013.  He is a member of the
Curriculum committee. Mike is a qualified Nursery Nurse and has worked in Barnet
schools for 18 years.During that time he has worked as classroom support in Reception
as well as supporting children with special educational needs on a 1:1 basis.  Mike has
been at Edgware for 6 years and is currentlyworking in the Nursery. Mike is our CU
manager for Barnet Children’sUniversity and has responsibilities for setting up and
monitoring highquality out of school provision for Edgware Primary school children.

Mike is also a member of a Governing Body at another local Primary school where
he sits on the Finance and Premises as well as theCurriculum committees.  He is
the governor with responsibility for EarlyYears and Special Educational Needs. Mike
is also the Vice Chair of the Advisory Board at a local Children’s Centre.

 

Amita Raval: Co-Opted Governor

          Year group YR2 (2017)

Amita Raval was elected as a Co-opted Governor of Edgware Primary School in
September 2014. Amita has a B.Sc (Hons) in Speech Sciences and has a
professional qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT). She
worked for the NHS for 25 years of which 10 years were served in the role as the
Principal SLT. She now works as a Specialist SLT on a consultancy basis for a
range of services including 2 local authorities. She has a specialist interest in
Special Educational Needs and Disability and Bilingualism/EAL.

 

Rebecca Howard: Co-Opted Governor
Role : Learning Challenge Governor

I have worked at Canons High School for six years as a History teacher
and Leader of Curriculum and Learning in Humanities. From April 2016,
I have been a Multi Academy Trust Systems Leader. Prior to this, I gained
four years experience as a Pedagogy Leader and worked in the school's
Curriculum and Pedagogy Team for two years. As a first wave Pedagogy
Leader, I contributed to the development of the Canons Pedagogy and,
alongside a team of Pedagogy Leaders, have led various INSETs.  I am
also a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) where my specialism is
leadership of the curriculum which means I have had various experience
of school to school support. I am particularly passionate about:

 - literacy  
 - teaching and learning
 - writing
 - challenge
 - promoting academic language and a knowledge rich curriculum
 - subject specific knowledge and skills
 - closing the attainment gap
 - ensuring progression across the curriculum

 

 

 

Debbie Picton: Co-Opted Governor
Debbie

Role: Arts Governor
         Year group: Y5 (2017)

Debbie has over 15 years' experience of teaching at secondary school
level in London since graduating with an MA degree in Classics.  She is
currently Assistant Head with responsibility for the Sixth Form at a local
independent girls' school. She is passionate about the importance of
providing aspiration and challenge in education for all children, whilst
ensuring that the well-being of the children is at the centre of everything
a school does.  Having worked in a voluntary capacity for an NHS board
previously, she is dedicated to serving the local community where she
can and is excited to support the aims and ethos of Edgware Primary
School as it moves forward.

Rachel Tomlinson: Co-Opted Governor

Rachael was appointed a governor in December 2016 and is member
of the finance and personnel committee. She has a finance and strategic
background in the public sector, holding previous roles in internal audit.
Rachael currently works for one of the health regulators. She has also
previously been involved in voluntary children's and youth work and is
therefore looking forward to being involved in the local community and
being able to use her experience to help the school."

 

Ahmad Munir - Parent Governor
Role : Year Group: Y4 (2017)
 
Elected as a Parent Governor since summer 2014. 
Ahmad is passionate about education and committed to providing all the
help and support he can to enable EPS to provide the best primary education
to its pupils. He believe strongly that a good primary education provides a firm
foundation for lifelong learning.
Ahmad is a founder of two girls schools overseas from primary to secondary.
Ahmad is also a member of Personal committee. Ahmad have a BEng (Hon) in
Digital Electronics and by profession he works as a Design Engineer since 2007
with Sony company
